Amanda Bossard was just out her high school days when she started her marine biology studies at Alaska PacificUniversity in Anchorage. Bossard began her professional career in the commercial seafood industry in 1999, when she started working on board the F/V Sunset the 65' halibut schooner that has been a salmon tender for Murat Aritan. She has been who has been a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard and Aritan have been married since 1993 and are working together to claim their place in their respective industries. The two are proponents conservation of sustainable, renewable sources of seafood. In 2007, she became a mother to two kids Bella age three as well as Andre 1 Bossard before returning to her home in Philadelphia established a direct market wholesale distributor of seafood called Otolith. Her husband has a long career in the fishing industry, which often keeps them separated from each other for a period of five or more months. This is when they're focusing on their environment and financial targets. Bossard along with Isabella and Andre (ages 10 and 12 respectively) are back each year, beginning in July of 2016, to Southeast Alaska for the summer harvest of salmon wild. With a small 42 troller Bossards are able to catch salmon using hooks. Then they work alongside Aritan working in the local processing plant for two weeks.
